Mission
The philosophy and mission of the Office of Disability Advocacy Services (ODAS) and Olive-Harvey College (OHC) is to encourage independence, assist students in realizing their academic potential, and facilitate the elimination of physical and attitudinal barriers. Also to provide a quality education to all qualified individuals.
Definition of Disability ADA/504:
- Anyone with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities
- Anyone with a record of such an impairment
- Anyone who is regarded as having such an impairment
Legislation Mandates
Federal laws, state statutes and district policies require this college to provide students with disabilities academic programs. According to these laws, “ No otherwise qualified individuals with a disability shall, on the basis of his/her disability be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any program or activity of a public entity”.
Rehabilitation Act of 1973-Section 504 Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII as amended in 1991 As per Section 504 and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, all data submitted to this office is strictly confidential.
