Skills Center and Vocational Training
Vocational training and job placement assistance are the Skill Center's dual missions. The Skill Center's professional staff of instructors specialize in a wide variety of fields which the work force demands. If you desire training or retraining for the purpose of immediate employment, the Skill Center's short-term hands-on vocational training programs may meet your needs. The short-term nature of the Skill Center courses (from 5 to 12 weeks) makes it possible to begin your classes at non-semester periods.
The Skill Center programs will provide you with:
- Entry-level job skills
- Career ladder training opportunities
- Job placement assistance
The initial part of the Skill Center's training programs is designed to determine your basic learning skills. Those students in need of upgrading these basic learning skills will be prepped in reading, math or language skills as required. Once this has been accomplished, you will begin one of the many programs available to you.
The Skill Center also offers specialized courses for people who are in need of retraining to upgrade their skills or for those who have been displaced from their jobs. Retraining for a new career to meet the work force demand for jobs that already exist has been the key to the Skill Center's success, and is your key to job security.
The Olive-Harvey College Skill Center is your source for training to enter or reenter the work force in a relatively short period of time.
